Flame and Void
Sylvari closely resemble humans but with a fey cast to their features such as tilted eyes and pointed ear tips; most display plantlike features such as hard wood for bone structure, have foliage and petals for hair, and bark acting as flesh. They glow feintly during the night. Golden sap moves through their veins instead of blood and pollen falls off of them as they move. They are much more slender than the average human and about a head shorter. While sylvari can seemingly absorb sunlight and become rejuvenated, they still must eat and drink to survive.
Sylvari are born through the World Trees Avendesora, Crann Bethadh, and Llyrdrassil. Born and encapsulated in pods within the trees, they remain in a dream-like state until they wake at the roots of the Tree, fully mature.
Sylvari live short lives outside of their groves, only able to stay out for 30-40 years before they feel The Longing, and must return to a Sylvari Grove, to tend to the world tree and act as an elder for some years before returning to the tree, adding all knowledge and experience to the communal knowledge of the Sylvari, and to the world itself. If they do not return in time, the Sylvari grows despondent and eventually catatonic, losing their sentience and turning into a common, if beautiful, tree.
Despite short lifespans, the life of a Sylvari is usually adventurous and productive. All knowlege and experience gained by the individual Sylvari is transferred to the communal consciousness at their final return to the grove. They seek adventure and experiences, often have insatiable wanderlust, and often see much more in their short lives than most other longer lived races do.
